Council okays Bell tower on the Regent

Faced with the prospect of a 98-foot tower rising in the centre of Picton, County council has reconsidered a plan to allow Bell Canada to erect a series of smaller towers on the roof of the Regent Theatre.

On Thursday evening, council rescinded its earlier decision and approved a plan to allow the towers to be erected on the roof subject to the telephone company working with the Prince Edward Heritage Advisory Committee, its staff and Regent Theatre to ensure the installation minimizes the impact on its heritage value and its structural integrity.
