Fatal crash

Sunday morning turned tragic when at 9:30 a.m. a car driven by 70-year-old Leona Bender failed to negotiate a curve on Highway 49 just north of the cement plant. Her car, a 2006 Chevrolet Uplander entered the ditch and struck a tree. Bender, a resident of Tyendinega First Nation, succumbed to injuries from the crash at the scene.

The OPP, Prince Edward Fire Services and Public Works crew attended the crash site.

The cause of the collision is still under investigation.
