County News, Size of Council
The adventure continues
Council agrees to review its size again
Another review of council will go ahead this year after a slim approval in last night’s County council meeting.
The motion was pulled by councillor Jamie Forrester, who requested another recorded vote. There was slight confusion over what the vote was for at a meeting that ran past 9 p.m., and the vote was recorded twice, both times with the same result.
Forrester, along with six other council members, were opposed to a new review of council. Eight councillors and Mayor Robert Quaiff voted in favour. There was no discussion, nor were there any questions about the review.
There are currently three options on the table to change the size of council, including one Quaiff himself introduced, which would split the County into two wards with five representatives each and a mayor elected at large.
This spring and summer the public will be invited to provide input on possible ways to change council size, with a report coming back to council in the fall to narrow down those options.
