Does this make my face look fat?

Brown face. Black face. Yellow face. White face. Red faced. We did it. It wasn’t right then. It isn’t right now. However, distracting the voting public with photographs of events that took place decades ago is also “not right”. Political party leaders, and their campaign managers, have to stop diverting our attention away from issues of concern to the voting public. Political party leaders, and their campaign managers, have a responsibility to show us what their political organization is proposing to do to make this country a better place. They have a responsibility to help all of us understand what they intend to enact and to legislate change. We, the voters, don’t have time for distractions. While some of us enjoy a political circus, most of us don’t want to wade through the mud and we don’t want American- style campaigns filled with smoke and mirrors.

Canadians have less than a month to hear what each of our Federal candidates has to say on behalf of their party. What they say has a direct impact on our day-to-day lives. We simply don’t have time to hear what one party is saying about housing and healthcare if the other party is wasting our time by putting on a crap-show for those people who love an epic scandal to help them make their decision. Yeah, yeah, I get it. We should be looking for a leader who is qualified, has integrity, is accountable, innovative and honest. Yeah, yeah. We need to have confidence in the person we elect to be the Prime Minister of this country. We should be looking for a leader who will stick to their core beliefs and values. We should be looking for a leader who will be ethical and who has demonstrated they have integrity. Where are the ethics and where is the integrity in looking for any piece of “dirt” that will turn voters’ heads away from the issues and concerns of this country? We don’t need National Enquirer campaigns, we need to know who’s going to do right by all of us.

Personally, I’m looking for an effective leader, someone who has given and who receives respect. I’m looking for a leader who has a vision, but also makes the right decision, at the right time. The decisions our Prime Minister will have to make, with regard to a number of national issues, will have a profound impact on Canadians, therefore I want a leader who has listened to the voters and is going to sit down, work out a solution and make the difference. I’m not the least bit interested in the tattle-tale behaviours of the insecure, foot-stomping whiners. I’m looking for a leader who takes their share of the blame and does not follow it with an excuse for the mistake or misstep. I’m looking for a leader who gives credit where it’s due and inspires others to get involved, to do more and to learn more.

Tick, tock. Only a few short weeks until we head to the polls to pick a leader. I want to see someone with passion for the job, a commitment to the issues and a sense of responsibility to the country as our Prime Minister. I want a Prime Minister who is committed to focusing on environmental issues, Aboriginal relations, refugee and immigration policies, cultural relativism, health care and ensuring the uber-wealthy bear a bigger tax burden.

I will be asking each of my local candidates to stop playing schoolyard games and focus on the real matters of Canadians and if they don’t stop their childish baloney, “I’m telling Mom.”
