Wildflowers spring up on forest floor

A stand of blue hepatica provides a burst of colour to contrast with the drab forest floor. For a few short weeks at the beginning of spring, an array of wildflowers come into bloom, taking advantage of the sunlight before the tree canopy forms. Hepatica, bloodroot and spring beauty set the stage for the arrival of trilliums.
