Municipal Election 2022
Paul Boyd
Ameliasburgh Ward Four
Paul Boyd said he is running for councilor because council has lost its ability to live within its means. “Our debt is out of control and the spending continues,” he said, adding that a staff of 450 employees is a sign that council has lost control. Boyd said council should return to a committee format that would allow councilors to make first-hand decisions. He would also like to see a program of performance management for all County employees to set employment goals and measure performance for promotion or salary increases.
When asked about affordable housing, he said candidates in the last two elections have talked about the issue but he pointed out that “in eight years nothing has been done. Let’s try for affordable rent.”
Boyd was critical of the change made this election in his ward, which has two polls for voting instead of four polls as in the past. “Not a good way to increase turnout,” he said.
He also said council should be working harder to bring business to the County to create jobs. He added that council should not be paying doctors to come here. “Doctors will come on their own and we really don’t need a doctor catcher,” he said.
Boyd said he was shocked that there are homeless people living in the County, some of them mothers with children sleeping in cars. “Shame on this council for letting this happen,” he said. “I will make sure this will end.”
