A dance of shadow and light

For a few hours at the time of the first quarter moon, the sunlight illuminating crater rims on the terminator— the transition between light and dark—forms the letter X and the letter V. It is one example of pareidolia, the tendency to see a specific image in a random visual pattern. As the full moon approaches on April 23, keep an eye out for the man in the moon, the woman in the moon or even the rabbit in the moon.
