Cost clarity
Federal waterworks funding
Additional details have been released about the $20.6 million in federal funding allocated to expand Wellington’s waterworks capacity. MP Chris Malette announced the Build Canada Strong Funding last month in Wellington.
The Times has learned that the federal funding covers half (50 per cent) of the project’s eligible costs, based on estimates submitted with the application, placing the total project cost at approximately $41 million.
The Build Canada Strong Fund will contribute up to $20.6 million, with any cost overruns to be covered by the County’s waterworks utility and its users.
The County is currently working on a detailed design of the wastewater plant, which is anticipated to be finalized in the first quarter of 2027.
