Waupoos Estates Gazebo Restaurant and Winery representative Jim Hartley and winemaker Amy Dickinson entice Councillor Bev Campbell (right) with a local chicken and herb roulade as a sample of what they will be serving on Saturday at Taste! community grown.

Eleven years of gathering and growing

Like its new branding, ‘Taste! community grown’ is a reflection of the County experience. In its eleventh year the event has continued to evolve and improve, holding steady as one of Festivals & Events Ontario’s top 100 events.

As in years past the focus of Taste! is the produce of the County. On offer is a cornucopia of County products available under one roof at the Crystal Palace on Saturday. The event is expected to sell out at 2,000 guests who will sample County wines, beer, and cider in addition to the epicurean creations provided by local growers and food producers.

Executive Director Jeremiah MacKenzie said the community-grown event encompasses not only tangible product grown here but also the intangible County experience.

“The authentic County experience: the dinners, events and moments that can happen anywhere, and they do. We want to foster, promote and preserve this special sense of togetherness,” said MacKenzie.

This year there will be some added features including a pie auction for the Edith Fox Life and Loss Centre, which will feature 20 pies from local bakers and chefs and will include the special incentive of a $500 shopping spree at Sobey’s Picton to the highest bidder.

The Waupoos Winery Farm and Artisan Market will take place again this year and it is open to all, not just those with Taste! tickets. It will have all of the flavours of a traditional European market with local food, meat, vegetables, crafts, body care and home and garden products. As always, Taste! community grown is an age of majority event. Childcare is available by Prince Edward Child Care Services and must be prearranged.
