Beach Day Takedown
On June 6th, 2016 the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Prince Edward County Detachment with the assistance of The Highway Safety Division (HSD) and the Snowmobile, Vessel, and ATV Enforcement Team (SAVE), engaged in active enforcement activities at various locations surrounding and inside Sandbanks Provincial Park, as a result of information received that a large gathering of students would be present.
Several RIDE checks were conducted which resulted in over 300 vehicles checked throughout the day.
During a RIDE check three young males were found to be in possession of Marihuana and Drug Paraphernalia.
Two of the males, aged 16 were charged with one count each of Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA). The third male, aged 17 was charged also charged under the CDSA with possession of a Schedule II controlled substance. 175 grams of marihuana were seized, along with materials used in the consumption and sale of marihuana.
All three males were released on Appearance Notice’s with a courtdate for July 11, 2016, at the Ontario Court of Justice, Picton Youth court. The names of the young persons will not be released in accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA).
