Chase ends in capture of frostbitten suspect
Accused of assaulting a two-year-old
OPP members scoured the woods and fields around Bloomfield last nightlooking for a 23 year old man accused of assaulting and injuring a two-year-old child. Police arrived at the Bloomfield home just about 9 p.m. but the suspect slipped out the back door, into the night without boots, coat or gloves. He fled across snow covered farm fields. Police were able to follow the man’s tracks. But for two hours he eluded police. The OPP Canine unit arrived. So did the Emergency Response Team.
Two hours later they found the suspect several kilometres west of Bloomfield. He was arrested and taken to hospital where he was treated for frostbite to his feet and hands.
Police have since learned of past assaults by the accused on the child’s mother.
The accused faces multiple criminal charges including Assault, Assault with a Weapon, Uttering Threats, Mischief, Breach of Recognizance and three counts of Breach of Probation.
