Chase ends in Rosehall

Chase-CarUpdate:  Charges are pending for a Kingston man who was arrested after being chased twice through Prince Edward County, by OPP yesterday morning.

29 year-old Corey Wentzell was arrested after police chased a car, stolen from the Wellington arena, along Loyalist Parkway, until it crashed into a ditch near Huycks Point Road.

Wentzell is charged with three counts of breaching an undertaking, two counts each of dangerous driving, flight from police and failing to remain at the scene of an accident.

He’s also charged with one count each of car theft, possession of stolen property and possession of methamphetamine.

 


 

Update:  On March 16, 2016 at approximately 7:20 am, members of the Prince Edward County detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a possible impaired driver near Big Island, Prince Edward County. A short time later officers observed the vehicle, but the driver fled. The officer discontinued attempting to stop the fleeing suspect vehicle for safety concerns.

A second report of a stolen vehicle in Wellington at the arena resulted in the initial suspect vehicle being recovered.

An officer observed the stolen vehicle traveling on Loyalist Parkway, Wellington and attempted to stop the fleeing suspect vehicle.  The driver lost control  near the intersection of Loyalist Parkway and Huycks Point Road, and came to rest in the southwest ditch of Huycks Point Road, Prince Edward County.

The driver, a 29-year-old Kingston man, was arrested, assessed at the scene by ambulance as a precautionary measure and released to the custody of police.  He is facing numerous charges and  is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice, Picton, on Thursday, March 17, 2016 for a bail hearing.

Officers had set-up road checks on Highway 62 near Belleville, Highway 33  in Quinte West, County Road 49 near Tyendinaga Territory and at the Glenora Ferry during the ongoing investigation. Highways were not closed.

The investigation is continuing.

 


 

A wild chase ended this morning in Rosehall after a 20 year old led police through Belleville into the County. In Picton he ditched the car and was reported on foot near Bridge Street. There he stole a white Honda minivan and headed west on the Loyalist Parkway. By this time OPP and Belleville had posted officers at the three bridges into the County.

The speeding vehicle raced through Wellington with several OPP vehicles on its tail. The driver proceeded west to Huyck’s Point Road where a short distance later the vehicle left the road.

Police soon handcuffed the suspect. EMS crews checked him for minor injuries but otherwise no one was injured. Damage to the van is extensive.

Reports indicated the suspect hit a variety of vehicles and roadside barriers along his morning escapade.
