A snowy day for a Santa Claus parade

The snowy weather did not deter hundreds of people from attending the annual Consecon Christmas parade on Sunday. Events in the village started earlier in the day with a bake sale at the United Church in support of local foodbanks. The Women’s Institute had their delicious almond bark for sale, and there was a wide array of preserves and baked goods available, as well as a selection of handmade knitted sock, mittens and hats. Volunteers from the Consecon Legion had a table on Main Street offering the welcome warmth of hot chocolate and marshmallows. There were free hot dogs for kids in the Masonic Hall, as well as cookie decorating, face painting and balloon twisting.

The parade itself was short, but with plenty of enthusiasm. An OPP vehicle led the way, followed by the Legion Colour Party. MP Chris Malette took part in the parade, as well as the mayor and several councillors. The Friends of Wellers Bay had a float, and there were several trucks from the fire department, with staff walking alongside handing out candies. The Belleville Shriners were also in attendance, and there were a number of vintage tractors in the parade too, as well as a super-sized pick-up truck. The star of the parade was undoubtedly Santa on his sleigh, accompanied by his effervescent and bubbly elves.
