Fire in Rednersville
Bay of Quinte residents lost their home Monday night
Some Rednersville Road residents found themselves without a home late Monday evening after a fire engulfed their house. At 9 p.m., the Prince Edward County fire department were called to a residence near Campbell’s Orchard, on the Bay of Quinte side of the road.
Four stations responded to the fire, stations five, six, eight and nine. There were 34 firefighters on scene, and they had the flames under control by 10:30 p.m., and remained on scene putting out hotspots. The building was a total loss, with the fire department estimating $400,000 in damage.
Fortunately, the house’s owner and tenants were able to exit safely. There were no injuries. They were aided by the Red Cross.
Because of the scope of the damage, the Ontario fire marshal was called to investigate. However, no foul play is suspected.
Deputy fire chief Robert Rutter says thanks to fire safety education and updated building codes, a complete loss is no longer a common occurrence.
