Dukes rack up three points in a pair of games

The Dukes didn’t get to Collingwood last week due to the weather, and snow again threatened Monday’s game in Cobourg. Such is hockey in January.

WELLINGTON 4 – PICKERING 4
The Wellington Dukes managed to venture out to Pickering on Friday night. The Dukes racked up a two-goal lead in the first, with goals from Captain Sacha Trudel and Blake Berthiaume. But then allowed four unanswered Pickering goals before the end of the second period.

But midway through the third, something happened. Two Dukes goals in 11 seconds. Landon Marleau scored his 18th goal in 25 games with Wellington. Newly arrived Aiden Lee tallied his first in a Dukes jersey.

But two overtime periods couldn’t produce a victor. Both teams went home after an unsatisfactory draw.

Dryden Riley went the distance in Wellington’s net—his first game since joining the team at the deadline.

WELLINGTON 4 – COBOURG 1
Despite the blizzard conditions, the Dukes trekked to Cobourg on Monday night, where they managed the struggling Cougar squad with relative ease. Zach Carrier led the way with a pair of goals. Blake Berthiaume scored his third of the campaign, as did Cain Tucker. Cobourg found the net just once on the power play, but this game was never close. The Dukes outshot the Cougars 32-16.

UP NEXT: MARKHAM, STOUFFVILLE AND CALEDON
The Dukes will look to improve on their home record as they host the Markham Royals for the fourth time this season. Wellington took the first two games of the series, but the Royals edged the Dukes in double overtime earlier this month.

This game will be just the Dukes’ second home game of 2026, and the first Friday night game of the year.

On Saturday, the Dukes head up to Stoufville to take on the East Conference leaders. It will be an important test of Wellington’s bolstered line-up.

Sunday, the Dukes are back home for a 2:30 game against Caledon. The Admirals are an improved team this season—sporting a near .500 record. Caledon is coming off a two-game winning streak. This game will be the first and only meeting with the Admirals this season.
