Local teen headed to national pageant

Local Wellington resident Hailey MacDonald is on her way to Toronto in a couple of weeks to compete in the Miss Canada Globe Productions Pageant (MCGPP) happening later this month. The 16-year-old is one of only a handful of candidates chosen nationally for the competition, which includes a few days of seminars and classes before the big event. To be chosen, you must apply and then conduct a phone interview with the people at MCGPP. For her talent, MacDonald will be reading a dramatic poem and will be focusing on her acting skills as her talent. The poem she will read is Phenomenal Woman by Maya Angelou. In the interview MacDonald was asked how she would speak about her home country if she were to represent the competition internationally.

“I said that our country is accepting of everyone and that I’m proud of the work that’s been done to accept refugees and immigrants. I also said that I was proud of our free healthcare system, and that we are very lucky to have it here,” says MacDonald.

Both the submission and the phone interview went well for MacDonald, and she received a lot encouragement from the people at the pageant. This Pageant has been around since 2000 and it focuses on beauty both inside and out. It also works on building up the confidence in young ladies in its program. Since its inception there have been several subcategories created, and the Miss Teen Canada Petite is MacDonald’s category. There is a talent competition as well as a national costume section where contestants can display their national pride. There are the traditional categories of swimsuit and evening gown—which have garnered some negative attention in the media as of late—along with fun new editions like karaoke that help keep the competition light.

There is an online voting aspect to this where you can support a contestant. The girls are asked to choose a charity to be connected and MacDonald has chosen a foundation that supports a program in Belleville for women and children who have been abused.

It’s an important cause and one that MacDonald is proud to raise awareness for. Her video on why she chose that charity can be seen online at misscanada.tv. The online voting counts towards a score that MacDonald will be judged on.

There are a couple of scenarios aside from the big win that MacDonald would also be interested in. “There is a Miss Social Media title,  and that’s all about getting her supporters to like and share on social media platforms,” says Lisa MacDonald, Hailey’s mom.

When asked about the weeks ahead, MacDonald admits that she is nervous about being involved in the production, but is hoping that the classes and seminars will help get her nerves settled by pageant time. She is proud to represent the County and will have the support of her mom behind her every step of the way.

Hi all, I “competed” many years ago and I hope this gains traction because it’s not right what they do. They make you sign an NDA when you get there under duress, they don’t tell you about it until you’re there halfway across the country with no way home. In it you’re told that if you speak bad about them they can sue you for 25k. This “pageant” will give regional titles to anyone who applies so they can have more girls forking over the 3k to compete at nationals. They take advantage of girls who have miss universe dreams. When I was there a girl posted her experience on one of these forums warning others about what was going on and she was stripped of the chance at winning the title as they had the hotel pull security cam footage to see who was in the computer room at the time of the post. At this time they had told us we weren’t allowed to bring phones with us (even more isolating). The international pageants they had were disturbing, one girl was underage and forced to walk topless in a foreign country on a runway because “that’s how they do pageants there” she was sexually objectified and traumatized. She is lucky she wasn’t kidnapped or trafficked. The people you see promoting this scam are dangerous people. If you promote it and are able to recruit others you’re paid a fee for each person you recruit. So these previous delegates who say it was the best experience ever are either scared of the NDA or are looking for that pay day (doesn’t exactly align with being a beautiful person on the inside when you’re a sociopath willing to take advantage of others for your own personal gain now does it?). All in all, steer clear please, protect yourselves. If you hear of someone in the news who is so exciting for this pageant reach out to them and warn them. I wish someone would’ve warned me….
