No concerns with Picton drinking water

Following additional testing last week, the County of Prince Edward remains confident in the quality of drinking water in the Picton and Bloomfield Drinking Water System.

The municipality learned late on Monday, February 26 of an environmental report concerning operations at Picton Terminals. As a result, The County’s Water and Wastewater Department conducted additional testing for parameters indicated in the report – chloride, cyanide, aluminum, and iron. The test results showed that all parameters remain significantly below the provincial limits, objectives, and guidelines for drinking water.

Sodium levels in drinking water treated at the Picton Water Treatment Plant are not elevated at this time. Sodium remains below the 20 milligrams per litre (20mg/L) level that would require the municipality to make a report to the local Medical Officer of Health.

The County is committed to providing a consistent supply of safe drinking water to all consumers of Picton and Bloomfield Drinking Water System. Drinking water will continue to be diligently monitored and tested as required under Ontario Regulation 170/03 and in response to the risks identified above.
