OMHA semi-finals
Peewee BB Kings v Collingwood
Entering the third round of league playdowns the Peewee BB Kerr Construction Kings have come up against a formidable foe in the Collingwood Blackhawks.
The series opened last weekend in Wellington as the Kings lost both of the series opening games, 3-0 and 4-1 in a best of 5, first to 6 points series.
The series moves to Collingwood on Friday evening in a do-or-die situation.
“The season has been eventful for these boys. They have made the finals in 3 out of 4 tournaments and finished regular season 36-12-7 and now we are in round 3 of our playdowns,” said Head Coach Jamie Lane. “We’re down 2-0 but not done and the group is very positive about Friday.”
“We need to make some adjustments and hope it helps Friday night,” said Lane. “With that said I have to give credit where due. Collingwood is an exceptional skating, puck moving team and well structured and coached — they are not 41-9-3 for no reason. That’s what semi-finals are about, to push each other to the end.”
No matter what the outcome is in Collingwood, Lane and the coaching staff are proud of their team and this season of hockey.
“It’s a great experience for my group and I am very happy with the way they have played and handled themselves the entire playdowns,” he said. “The peewee team will be in great shape to start next season with half of this year’s roster eligible to return.”
If necessary game five will take place on Sunday at 1:30 pm at Essroc Arena.
“I never count these 14 kids out, they can do it,” said Lane
