Overflowing

The long weekend has come and gone, but a reminder of the influx of guests remains on Wellington Beach. Most garbage cans at the beach have been left full and with garbage piled beside them, leading many to question if the County should better manage their waste and recycling receptacles.

“Municipal staff members worked throughout Saturday and Sunday this past weekend, emptying garbage bins and cleaning the public facilities at Wellington Beach. It is regrettable that excessive amounts of garbage were left behind at Wellington Beach on Monday, August 6 when staff members were off. Municipal staff worked quickly on Tuesday morning with all of the garbage collected and cleared by 9:30 a.m.,” says Preston Parkinson, Director of Operations for the County of Prince Edward.

“We recognize that the higher number of visitors to Wellington Beach on holiday weekends leads to an increased volume of waste. We are taking steps to address this issue. During the upcoming long weekend in September, staff will be on-call on Labour Day Monday to empty garbage bins. Furthermore, we will put additional garbage bins at Wellington Beach in order to prevent the overflow.”

This isn’t rocket science, guys. More bins. More recycling bins. They’re over flowing because there aren’t enough bins. No need for this to be a long, drawn out debate.

what about some recycling bins this goes all into land fill … encourage people to recycle that’s what we do at our business as well. Providing bins with signs could help.
