Paul Bordonaro
People’s Party of Canada
Paul Bordonaro is a retired Scarborough businessman who is living out his retirement dreams in Carrying Place. Bordonaro is active as a volunteer and has been involved with questioning government policy for years. He recalls a time in 1982 when he wrote a report on the homeless and affordable housing and presented it to the Minister of Housing at the time, the Honourable Alvin Curling. Bordonaro also presented his vision of Scarborough to city council, to change the city’s direction to create more local jobs. At the time, the city had far less jobs per capita than all the other neighbouring cities and municipalities. Since retiring, Bordonaro tries to stay active in his community. He has dealt with a few local safety issues he was concerned with, and was able to resolve them. It is experiences like these that make Bordonaro believe he is the best candidate to serve the Bay of Quinte Riding in Ottawa.
Bordonaro believes that Canada has been mismanaged for years, pointing out that the same two parties have been governing the nation for 152 years. “Many of the same issues seem to follow each election, including the cost of living, affordable housing, job creation, the deficit and our ballooning debt,” says Bordonaro. He says changes need to be made in order for Canadian citizens to start seeing results. “The People’s Party of Canada wants to change the way we do politics, putting Canadians first,” he says. “Doing the same thing over and over has proven to be ineffective.”
Bordonaro believes his party leader, Maxime Bernier, is the only one qualified to steer the nation in the right direction. “Our party leader, the Honourable Maxime Bernier has the qualifications to be a competent leader. He is a lawyer, he has held senior positions in banking, was a Conservative MP and held several ministerial portfolios in the Harper government. He understands first hand the ineffectiveness of many of the present policies in Ottawa, and has a plan to address what matters most to Canadians,” says Bordonaro.
Bordonaro promises his party will scrap the carbon tax, making life more affordable for Canadians. “We are the only party to unequivocally remove this costly, ineffective tax. The ramifications to everyday Canadians would be unbearable, since the cost to travel to work and weekly grocery bills would continue to rise as gasoline prices would hit record highs,” says Bordonaro.
He also says The People’s Party philosophy of less taxes and regulations, no foreign aid, except for humanitarian crises, and no corporate welfare, will free up a lot of Canada’s misdirected money. “This will allow us to balance the budget in two years and address the issues that need attention. With more money in people’s pockets, the free markets will build our economy, creating more jobs.”
As for immigration, Bordonaro believes immigration needs to work for, and not against, Canadians. “Some analysts say Canada’s immigration should presently be 400,000. The People’s Party of Canada strongly disagrees and stands alone on our strong conviction of making immigration work for us, not against us,” he says. “We want to decrease the numbers to 150,000 a year and adjust it to our needs.” Bordonaro points out that unemployment in Ontario alone is 450,000 people. He claims that infrastructure is already overburdened, hospital wait times are already too long, getting a family doctor is already too difficult. “We need some relief, and that’s our reason to lower immigration.”
Bordonaro wanted to be clear that his party will work for the people of Canada. “Our party core values reflect our passion towards people. The core values are personal responsibility, individual freedom, respect and fairness. We believe that by treating all Canadians as truly equal, we can eliminate the cause of divisiveness that harms our national unity. We want to protect and strengthen Canada’s identity.”
