Remember, this is Wellington
Would Santa Claus be grounded
By a lack of volunteers?
No parade this year in Wellington?
Young and old were close to tears
The future looked quite dismal
The prospects seemed a mess
But out of near catastrophe
They pulled a great success
It was a perfect day of sunshine
To hear the sirens wail
As the Legion marched past stiffly
With a pipe band on their tail
There were cruisers from the stations
‘Hot country’, ‘All hits’, ‘The beat’
It felt just like six discoteques
Rolling down the street
There were Shriners riding camels
And pirates waving swords
Making threats so real they’d win
Academy awards
There were Lions, Elks and Rotary
There was Wellington on the Lake
There’s just so much excitement
This feeble heart can take
There were Grinches, there were Suess Things
And Dukes who smiled and waved
There were clowns and there were horses
All in all quite well behave
The candy canes weren’t tossed about
But gently passed by hand
To the gentle strains of Jingle Bells
Played by a bluegrass band
Even politicians
Were treated with respect
No boos no jeers no protest signs
Like you’d normally expect
The parade stretched out forever
It was lengthy it was vast
So I say to those volunteered
Thanks to you—I had a blast
And to anyone still doubting
That we pulled off quite a feat
Remember this is Wellington
Where we don’t admit defeat!
