New flagship store an opportunity to feature County wine and spirits
The village at the centre of much of the County’s wine region will see the development of a brand new liquor store in the coming months—posing an opportunity perhaps for the provincial agency to feature the County’s locally grown wine and spirits in Wellington. New LCBO stores in the Niagara region feature a large and prominent “Best of Ontario” section at the front as customers enter.
Demolition of the Dairy Dip restaurant on the western edge of Wellington began in earnest this week—clearing the way for a new 5,091-square-foot LCBO store, more than double the size of the existing store on the east end of the village.
In addition to the liquor store, the development will see the construction of a brand new 3,250-square-foot restaurant.
The property owners and developers Bill and Sue Bailas cleared the final regulatory hurdles earlier this month after the site plan was approved by council. On the drawing boards for more than two years, the project is finally under way. The Bailases are looking forward to operating the new restaurant beyond the seasonal five months the Dairy Dip was traditionally serving customers.
“This will mean jobs in this community as well as an exciting new store to feature locally grown products,” said Bailas.
The LCBO store is set to open next summer—just in time for the fall harvest. The restaurant is set to open in May.
