The candidates on the issues

What is your candidate thinking? With 43 candidates running for 16 council seats, it can be hard to sort through and get simple answers.

Today we present the first of three sets of answers from a survey conducted in recent days by the Concerned Citizens of Prince Edward County. The results provide a quick snapshot of the issues and the positions of the candidates. It is not meant to be a comprehensive airing of the issues but rather starting point as we prepare for all candidate meetings in our communities.

Eighty-one per cent of the candidates responded to the survey despite some reservations. Nine declined. One candidate, Monica Alyea, refused to answer any of the questions with a yes or no but did agree to provide comments instead. Most respondents also offered comments even if they answered the question. Space doesn’t allow us to publish all of these comments but they are available to review online at ccpec.on.ca.

Nine questions were asked in total. This week we present the answers to the first three questions. (See below).

Check back next week for part two of the survey results.

Question 1 : Would you support an annual performance management review for senior staff?

Question 2: Do you prefer:
A. No industrial wind turbines in the County
B. Setbacks at least 1,500 metres from residences
C. Setbacks at least 550 meters (as per Green Energy Act)

Question 3: Should council have the authority to declare private property as “Heritage” with all its protections, without approval from the property owners?

* Asterisks denote that the candidate qualified their answer with a comment. Comments may be viewed at ccpec.on.ca

A blank indicates where a candidate chose not to answer the question.

Thanks Wellington Times for your voting chart. Without your help on the major issue – wind turbine blight – I was not going to vote. Now thanks to Rick at the W.T., I will be voting for Duncan Fischer for councillor in ward 9 because he was the only candidate in the Wellington Times survey with a checkmark beside – “A. No industrial wind turbines in the County.”
… Keep up the pressure, good work,
