Veterans of the County Marathon create a special tribute

Lynn and Ken Stubbings love Prince Edward County. Mostly the Cobourg couple love the County marathon. They describe it as the friendliest and most supportive place to run of any place they’ve been. They should know—Lynn has run in 47 half-marathons—Ken has finished 67 full marathons. Both Lynn and Ken have run in all 10 County Marathons since 2004. They have all the swag to prove it.

A few nights before the race on Saturday Lynn pulled out all the shirts, socks, bibs and other gifts and memorabilia given to participants. She knitted all the goods together with safety pins to create a unique 10th anniversary quilt of sorts.

“It is a tribute to the wonderful people who come out to cheer us on in Prince Edward County,” said Lynn. “Even in the pouring rain, they are standing out there offering encouragement. It is really a good feeling.”

How do they make the time to train for so many marathons?

Ken says they are both up at 5 a.m. each morning, five days a week.

“After a while you just get used to it,” said Ken.
