Bloomfield/Hallowell Ward Two

Brad Nieman, who is seeking his third term on council, has lived in the Bloomfield/Hallowell ward for 32 years. Married with four children and nine grandchildren, he has three decades of experience in municipal government as an employee, supervisor and councillor. He has studied the following subjects: municipal management; leading in municipal government; and mediation, conflict resolution and negotiations.

To address the issue of affordable housing, Nieman feels that Council should encourage the housing corporation to complete more projects and to provide more serviced land to such projects across the County. “I believe the completion of these projects for affordable housing would lead to more potential employees to fill the vacant spots, which in return would attract young families,” he said.

He also believes that the County’s tourism management needs more work to build a better balance for the tourist and residents.

Nieman says the key to solving the problems with the waterworks system would be an independent review to find where efficiencies can be made. “I believe there needs to be a better understanding of the financial side of the water/wastewater [system],” he said. “Our water/wastewater system needs to be diverted from the Peats Point water system.”

When asked about heritage, environmental sustainability, stewardship and protection in the County, he said Council has made “an adequate start … although more can be done to address these topics [and] it needs to be done continuously.”

There is no need to change the size of Council, Nieman said, adding its present size “allows for proper representation of our residents.”
