Get ready to celebrate a weekend of bubbles

Just ten days remain before Wellington and the County become awash in bubbles. The first ever Bubble Festival will be floated over two days, July 19 and 20. While Wellington will be Bubble Central with a parade, games and refreshments around a bubble theme, businesses and organizations across the region will also join in the fun.

Bubble Festival is the inspiration of Tina Konecny, head of the Wellington and District Business Association.

“It is something very different,” said Konecny. “I wanted to give visitors and residents something that was fresh and new.”

The festival will feature a challenge to enter the Guinness World Records book for the most people popping bubble wrap. The current record holder is the TwinLakesElementary School in Elk River, Minnesota, with 942 bubble poppers.

There will be bubble soccer—played like regular soccer, except players will be cloaked in a bubble. The more adventurous can enter a giant, transparent bubble and walk on water—rolling across Wellington harbour. There will be a bubble gum chewing contest and plenty of soap bubbles will fill the air in Wellington park.

There will be local sparkling wine and pop for the kids.

The Bubble Lady, Teena Lemieux, will be on hand to entertain with her magical show about the wondrous world of bubbles.

As the day winds up on Saturday, the Festival will feature a Bubble Ball and a Bubble Wrap Fashion show.

Why Bubbles? According to Konecny bubbles bring out the child in each of us.

“Who doesn’t love bubbles,” said Konecny.
