HPEDSB – WARDS 3 , 4 , 6 , 7

Rachael Prinzen (née Gregory) was born and raised in the County and is an 11th generation County girl. She attended and graduated from Pinecrest Elementary School and PECI, where she was known as an active athlete excelling in sports such as soccer, volleyball, rugby and track and field. She then went on to achieve her Honours Bachelor of Science in Nursing in the collaborative program at Loyalist College and Brock University. Prinzen completed her nursing degree in 2009, and married her high-school sweetheart, Joseph. Together they have two daughters, ages 8 and 11, who attend a County public school. Prinzen has been employed with Corrections Canada in various frontline nursing positions since 2010, with the majority of her career being focused on mental health. She has also taken on administrative tasks of updating outdated policies and revising NHQ (National) government documents to be site-specific and more user-friendly for her colleagues and other frontline staff. Prinzen is now in the process of launching her own independent practice as an “RN, Psychotherapist” and Coach to provide mental health services in Prince Edward County.

Prinzen says that if she is elected as school board Trustee, she will use her nursing experience to assess and identify gaps and barriers through open communication and public consultation. “I will use that insight to advocate for student needs with a holistic approach,” said Prinzen. Her platform seeks to identify the current postpandemic priorities, to advocate for student wellness and success and to represent every student and family in the County. “My nursing background has taught me how to advocate for the unique values and needs of others without discrimination. Advocating for others, critical thinking and thorough assessment skills in identifying gaps and barriers are hands down my top three greatest strengths,” she says. In terms of current student issues, Prinzen says it was well documented in research that the mental health and the overall wellbeing of children and youth were disproportionately affected during the Covid-19 lockdown mandates. “When a student’s mental health suffers, so does every other area of their life because each area of health is fundamentally linked,” she said. “Therefore, it is imperative to provide the resources and support for students and their families in addressing all aspects of health and wellness, so students can focus on their academics, growth and development, and not just their basic fundamental needs.”

When speaking on equity, Prinzen says her position is to ensure that every student is supported and assisted with removing the gaps and barriers to their individual success and wellbeing. “As a nurse, I was trained for holistic person-centred care. Therefore, as every individual is different and unique, the needs and barriers of every student will be different and unique to them in reaching their full potential,” she said.

Prinzen shares that she and her husband both grew up in families dedicated to serving and volunteering in the community. The ROC was first launched by her family in 2000. As a youth, Prinzen was active at the ROC for many years, volunteering at the drop-in nights and summer sports camps. She also volunteered with her husband’s family at DayStar Native Outreach summer camps for Indigenous children/ youth on the Sagamok Reserve. During high-school and post-secondary, Prinzen also served as a Youth and Young Adult leader in her church, providing mentorship and support to her younger peers. More recently, she has joined to serve on the Board of Directors for the Grace Inn Homeless Shelter and Shiloh House (transition home) in Belleville. She is also a founding member of a new association called Nurse Psychotherapists of Ontario, where she has successfully been lobbying for increased accessibility and affordability to mental health reservices in Ontario. Prinzen says she has also occasionally volunteered in her daughters’ classrooms, and has noted the need for additional student support, especially during math.

In terms of privatization, Prinzen says she supports individual and family autonomy to choose what is best for their child(ren). As for a two-tiered system, Prinzen plans to have public consultation with students, families, schools/staff and the community to discuss the current needs. “To evaluate what is working and what is not; and to have discussions about creative and innovative systems that would best support every student in pursuit of their success,” she says.

Ultimately, Prinzen says her focus will be to improve and enhance the public school system by advocating for the necessary resources, support services and staffing so that local students and families will find their needs met within the public schooling system.

What’s great about democracy is everyone has a choice on who they elect, and in this race, we have drastically different candidates (3) with different lived experiences and values. This isn’t about divisive politics, this is about each of us sharing our own values based on our lived and working experiences and having the right to question and challenge all candidates who are vying for our vote.

From what I gather about this candidate, in addition to being a mother, community volunteer, and clearly very intelligent, they also support the convoy/freedom movement, as seen through their posts on their public FB account. This includes sharing, favourably, posts by Pierre Poilievre, Leslyn Lewis (also prolife), and Tamara Lich. So if you too support these folks, this is the candidate for you.

If you also support the likes of Jordan Peterson, Ben Shapiro and Tucker Carlson, who hold harmful views towards women, immigrants, and the queer community, this may be your candidate, as videos by these folks have also been shared on this candidate’s FB account.

At the end of the day, this candidate chose to put their name forward, which unfortunately means they will go under public scrutiny in a way no one enjoys. Running for any elected position is not an easy thing to do so I commend this candidate and all candidates.

We all have a choice, and we all need to go beyond a platform/campaign material/candidate’s campaign social media accounts to know more about what drives them.

Best of luck to all candidates in the municipality race!

Haven’t we had enough with divisive politics. Haven’t we had enough with Canadians being divided by the whole vex/ unvaxed narrative?
These Karen comments by so-called Sally an Wilma continue to feed division among Canadians and frankly it’s uncalled for and serves no purpose. I’ve read her platform and it’s a solid one. You like it. Vote for her. You don’t like it. Vote for someone else.
    Enough with the divisive rhetoric.
People have lost family members and friendships over it and we as Canadians need to move forward here an embrace one another from all walks of life. That’s a true Canadian.
Not what we’ve seen and heard the last two years. Diversity is our strength right? Well stop trying to cancel someone because you think she doesn’t have your views of what the world should be. I see nothing of the kind in her platform. Move on and find someone else to bully.

I think she’s running for the wrong school board if what she wants is to advance her set of religious, far-right, anti-science values. Don’t fall for the bait and switch Pedro.

Another perfect example of what I’m talking about right here. We are doomed as a society when open dialogue is treated with this left cancel culture ideology. You sound like you just left a Justin Trudeau pep rally.
The true colours being shown here are crystal clear from your post.
Once again. “Diversity is our strength” remember. She has ever democratic right to run in her riding. Stop marginalizing Canadians that you feel may not share your views or lifestyle. That’s never gone well in history Marion.

What a great article! I believe Rachael is a strong candidate for this position. Her willingness to listen to everyone is remarkable. It’s one thing to only listen to those agreeing with you but to be open to all view points is not something we frequently see. Her ability to walk with grace and a spirit of excellence in a time of uncertainty is a quality I believe required to be in this position. I have seen her focus on what she is for rather than what she is against in this campaign, always placing the focus and attention where it should be!

No, she isn’t. That tweet got corrected by accurate information. If you read into her campaign you’ll see why she left her previous position to now tackle new spheres! I’d highly recommend checking her Instagram account, it gives great detail on her life with accurate information given by her:)

Rachel has been an older sister figure to me since I was a baby girl; I’m now 20! There is none like her, her drive, tenacity and will to see improvement in all areas of life. She thrives in atmospheres most people wouldn’t be able to get up in. She is a trusted woman who is devoted to seeing a great today and a better tomorrow!!! Love you Rachel!!

    Excellent and capable candidate!
I’ve known Rachael and Joseph PRINZEN for more 15 years.
What I know of her is that she is a strong leader, but is compassionate!
She has strong beliefs, but not at the expense of yours!
She is a truth seeker and has been willing to grow and understand that we are all on a journey of life!
You may not agree with her on all things and have a difference of opinion, but one thing I have seen with Rachael is that she is very fair and treats people with equity!
I believe the Rachael is someone that has the skills to bring some stability to a very unstable world, where ever she goes!
She’s not afraid to ask the hard questions and lead with compassion!
With great respect and high regard I fully endorse Rachael PRINZEN!

Isn’t she the anti-vax nurse that quit her job to join the convoy?

Not sure if she quit her job, but yes she is pro convoy, anti vax, and thinks the covid-19 pandemic was “planned”. you can find all of this on her public facebook.

Her public Facebook profile shows she is anti vax, pro freedom convoy and has said she does not believe gender should be taught in classrooms. So no I do not have the wrong person.

Wasn’t she the nurse on Facebook with the weepy video with the cue cards because she was leaving her nursing job because she refused to get vaccinated? I can’t find anything on her Instagram about it and her Twitter account has literally one tweet.
