On Monday night approximately 9 pm, a 15 year old male snuck out of a group home facility on County Rd. 28, south of Rossmore, in the Ameliasburgh area.  The youth then entered some nearby private residences while the occupants were at home.  In one case the youth walked into an unlocked home without knocking and asked the resident for a glass of water.  He left a few minutes later.  The youth then entered another unlocked home and stole a cell phone from a purse.  The resident was home but unaware the male had been inside.

Just after midnight a Prince Edward OPP officer observed the suspect hiding near a tree on the property of another County Rd, 28 residence and subsequently arrested him.

When the suspect was searched, a variety of stolen personal items were found in his pockets.  The suspect also had a stolen child’s bicycle with him.

The accused, a 15yr old male from Ameliasburgh, was kept in custody and brought to bail court in Belleville yesterday to answer to charges of Prowl by Night, Unlawfully in a Dwelling, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime and Fail to Comply with an Undertaking.

Residents within the area of County Rd. 28 are asked to check their property and homes for missing items of any nature and report them to Prince Edward OPP.

Residents are also reminded to protect their property by locking vehicle and residence doors and securing all objects left outside, even if they are home.
